The compact 2025 Volvo EX30 offers two powertrain options: a single-motor version that can go 275 miles on a full charge, or a dual-motor version that offers a range of 265 miles, according to EPA estimates. It comes with a new generation of Park Pilot Assist for city dwellers that can handle all types of parking spaces. The low center of gravity helps the car stay flat on the road, and it’s properly maneuverable in city traffic. Volvo says both versions can be charged from zero percent to 100 percent in eight hours using a home charging connection. At a DC fast-charging station, that number drops to 26.5 minutes.
Editor’s note: The Volvo EX30 was originally scheduled to go on sale in the U.S. in 2024. However, Volvo has postponed the launch to 2025. It is already being sold elsewhere.

Although this Prius has a different design than the last generation, it is still a great choice for city dwellers who have long loved this model. The plug-in hybrid model can travel over 40 miles on pure electric power before needing to be recharged, or can operate as a traditional hybrid when charging is not available. It is offered with hands-free parking technology, which is beneficial for city drivers.

2024 Chevrolet Trax- 6.9/10
The 2024 Chevrolet Trax is a smart choice for city dwellers seeking efficiency and style in a small, affordable package. The new Trax has a sleek and modern design with LED daytime running lights, chrome accents, and 16-inch wheels. It comes with a turbocharged 1.4-liter engine that delivers 155 horsepower, but is not offered with all-wheel drive. The C40 has a futuristic cabin with a 9-inch touchscreen and Google Built-in with Assistant and Play. Its vegan-friendly interior also features a panoramic glass roof and a Harman Kardon sound system. The C40 Recharge is equipped with advanced safety and driver assistance features.
2024 Buick Envista – 6.8/10
The five-passenger Buick Envista features a sleek new design from GM’s own premium brand. Its interior looks and feels much better than its price. Almost all features are standard, including an 11-inch infotainment touchscreen and an 8-inch digital driver information display, which are housed under a single pane of glass. With its small four-cylinder engine, the Envista consumes 9 liters per 100 kilometers in city driving and produces 137 horsepower. Like the Chevrolet Trax, the Envista is not offered with all-wheel drive.
