2025 Rivian R1S – 8.6/10
Unveiled for the 2025 model year, the second-generation Rivian R1S SUV looks almost identical to the previous model, but has hundreds of changes beneath the surface to meet the demands of the future. The all-electric range is now a maximum of 420 miles. It offers a choice of four powertrains, from two to four motors, and can be charged at almost any charging station, including a Tesla Supercharger. Charging speed has been improved, as has the usability of the infotainment touchscreen.
2025 Rivian R1T – 8.5/10
The Rivian R1T pickup truck, like the SUV, has been redesigned for 2025. While Rivian engineers gave the SUV more off-road capability, the R1T got better on the road. Its adaptive cruise control has been updated (the hardware enables hands-free driving) and its touchscreen infotainment system now features new, eye-catching graphics. Those looking for the future will also appreciate the R1T’s 11 cameras, which help keep passengers safe on and off the road.
2024 Hyundai Ioniq 6 – 8.3/10
The bean-shaped Hyundai Ioniq 6 has put almost everything aside except aerodynamics, resulting in one of the longest all-electric ranges on the market at 361 miles. The car’s futuristic, pixelated front and rear lights greet future-seekers as they approach the car with a key fob or digital key in hand, along with ambient lighting in the interior. When the roads get twisty, the low-slung Ioniq 6 in every trim level remains stable and offers a fun driving experience.
Audi Q8 E-Tron 2024 – 7.7/10
The Audi E-Tron portfolio has grown to four versions of the Q8 electric flagship. The 2024 Audi Q8 E-Tron features new aerodynamic wheel options, projection lighting and more range thanks to a battery that is more efficient and has a larger usable capacity. Charging power has also been increased, so charging from 10 to 80 percent now takes about 31 minutes on a DC fast charger. Tomorrow Seekers with a Level 2 home charger will get a full battery in about 13 hours.
2024 Hyundai Ioniq 5 – 7.6/10
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is a great electric vehicle. Future-hungry drivers are already going crazy for its retro-modern design. Its spacious cabin and 800-volt fast-charging capability make it a worthy starter model for battery-powered electric vehicles. For more adventurous future-hungry drivers, the Ioniq 5 N is available, which translates the “things” drivers love about handling gasoline-powered vehicles into an electric vehicle.
Kia EV9 2024 – 7.6/10
The Kia EV9 is about the same size as the three-row Telluride SUV, but its electric powertrain gives it more interior space for families and cargo. The EV9 was designed with electrification in mind from the start, so few compromises were made in the earth-tone-finished SUV. A range of around 300 miles and the ability to charge quickly should appease those hungry for the future, and the interior design and technology are of the highest quality. Three connected digital screens relay relevant information to drivers.
2025 Porsche Taycan – 7.4/10
The all-electric Porsche Taycan is as far as the makers of the 911 can go in terms of electric engineering. In all guises, the Taycan is fast and responsive (it’s available as a sedan or wagon with rear- or all-wheel drive). The most powerful versions rival race cars, outperforming their performance and track times. Porsche recently redesigned the Taycan, giving the future-seeker more range and power, as well as faster charging speed (it can charge from 5 to 80 percent in about 25 minutes under ideal conditions).
2024 Genesis GV60 – 7.4/10
The Genesis GV60 was the company’s first pure electric vehicle, and it came to market alongside platform mates Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 as the Korean conglomerate’s first luxury EV. When unattended, the GV60’s cabin is aligned with a crystal ball in the armrest. When a driver gets in, that ball rolls around to reveal the metallic rotary switch. It’s ready for the Tomorrow Seeker, which is also an eco-warrior, with plant-based leather seats and armrests and seat upholstery made from fabrics made from yarns made from recycled PET bottles and fishing nets.
2024 LucidAir – 7.3/10
Startup Lucid’s first offering, the Air electric sedan, woos the future-hungry with a stylish and aerodynamic shape and a luxurious cabin free of distractions. A widescreen digital display stretches from the driver’s side to the center, while a lower panel can also be customized to display directions and other information. The cabin is quiet at speed, and driver-assist features like DreamDrive Pro take some of the stress out of commuter traffic.
2025 Lotus Elise – 7.3/10
The Lotus Eletre is the electric SUV for those hungry for the future who combine performance with innovation and exclusivity. The Eletre combines a lightweight carbon fiber chassis with an electric powertrain that delivers up to 905 horsepower. Long-range models travel more than 300 miles on a full battery and can be charged from 10 to 80 percent in around 20 minutes. Inside, the Eletre has three digital screens, including one for the passenger, while the rest of the cabin is kept clean so you can focus on the road.
